Travel Information
How do I get to Guayaquil?
The easiest way is to fly into José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (GYE), which has direct flights from several international cities and frequent connections from Quito and Cuenca.
Where Should I Stay?
We are currently exploring group hotel rates, depending on interest. In the meantime, we recommend looking into the Holiday Inn Guayaquil Airport, Wyndham Guayaquil, Hilton Colón Guayaquil, or TRYP by Wyndham Guayaquil Airport—all safe, comfortable, and conveniently located.

Weather
Guayaquil is hot and tropical in August, with typical daytime highs around 30–32 °C (86–90 °F) and nighttime lows around 20 °C (68 °F). It’s generally warm, so light, breathable clothing and sun protection (hats, sunglasses) are recommended.
If you plan to visit Ecuador’s highlands (like Quito or Cuenca), temperatures can vary widely throughout the day and be much cooler, so layers are a good idea.
Comfortable shoes are always helpful for walking and exploring.
Currency
The official currency of Ecuador is the U.S. Dollar (USD). Credit cards are widely accepted, but we recommend carrying some cash for taxis, small shops, and local vendors.
